Sensory play, creativity, conversation and exploration all happening at once in our preschool classroom.

Building strong readers means teaching students how to think deeply about texts, not just move through them. From kindergarten our classrooms are filled with explicit instruction, discussion and carefully scaffolded learning experiences that help students develop confidence and comprehension. 📚

Some of the most important moments in education happen quietly.

Students are asked to do difficult things every day, and teaching is structured to guide them through that process.

At The Green School, personalised learning is not complicated.

Students are assessed and supported at their level, particularly in reading, writing, and maths — with teaching adjusted to meet their needs.

Not all students need the same thing at the same time.

Sometimes progress comes from stepping out of the classroom, sitting down together, and working through something carefully.

What happens when a 5-year-old reads their writing to a real audience?

Something pretty special.

This week our Middle School students visited the Kindergarten classroom to listen to personal narratives written by our youngest writers. The Kindergarten students read their stories aloud in small groups, sharing moments from their own lives while the older students listened, asked questions, and encouraged them.

When children know someone is truly listening, writing suddenly has a purpose. It’s no longer just something you do for a teacher — it becomes communication.

For our Kindergarten students, this experience builds confidence and ownership. They begin to see themselves as real writers with stories worth telling.

And for our Middle School students, it’s a chance to slow down, listen carefully, and remember where their own writing journey began.

One of the things we love most about being a small school is that these kinds of moments happen naturally. Older students supporting younger students. Learning flowing both ways.

Real writers.
Real audience.
